Assistant Manager for Museum and Craft Shop

Summer employment opportunity for students entering or returning to post secondary university or community college term in September. Successful candidates must have their own mode of transportation – as there is no public transportation to/from Terence Bay.

DUTIES

Responsible for daily operations of SS Atlantic Heritage Park with boardwalk, interpretation centre, museum, craft shop and tea room. Duties include learning the history of SS Atlantic, meeting the public, giving guided tours to visitors including school tours, marketing and promotion to tourists and HRM residents, planning special events, handling sales, keeping an inventory of sales, helping with displays of artifacts and sale items, researching history, baking and serving refreshments, regular cleaning and upkeep of the site.

Available to work most weekends starting May 20 with 2 days off a week.

Work term: 14 weeks, 35 hr/week at $11.00/hr plus 4% holiday pay. Program subsidized under the provincial SKILL summer employment programme.

QUALIFICATIONS

Interested in marketing, promotion, public relations, tourism, local history, and retail operations. Must have good written and oral communication skills. Must be comfortable dealing with the public; able to use a cash register, computer, handle money, balance daily sales, and social media for promotion. Must be dependable, conscientious and able to work with little supervision.

Employer will attempt to provide opportunities for student to develop skills in area of study or special interest.
