school_busSchool may seem far away for your 3 or 4 year old but it isn’t! Our school will be hosting a “Get ready for school” event for children who will be starting school in 2011 and born in 2006.

You and your child will get to visit a series of fun stations that include development, speech, hearing and dental screenings, as well as information on your child’s vision, car seat safety, and fine motor development.

This is a fun way for you and your child to learn ways that will help your child be their best. This is a FREE event and every child goes home with a take home bag.

  • When: Friday, May 21st, 2010
  • Where: Atlantic Memorial Elementary School

How long? Most families are at the school for about 1½ - 2 hours, snack is provided for the children.

Hosted by Atlantic Memorial Elementary School, Chebucto West Community Health Board and Public Health. Screenings and information provided from Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists, Child Safety Link, IWK Occupational Therapy, as well as local community resources.

Interpretation and transportation supports available. Call the school at 852-2166 for more information and to register.

jessicaGreat news!

The Prospect Road Community Centre Steering Committee's own "youth" volunteer, Jessica Morrissey was recognized in late April at Halifax City Hall by Mayor Peter Kelly for her outstanding volunteer commitment to the Prospect Road Community Centre project.

Jessica gives of her time and talents to many volunteer organizations and activities and she truly deserves any and all recognition that she gets.

Congratulations Jessica from your fellow Steering Committee members, members of the ROC Board of Directors and our community at large.

Thank you for making our community a great place to live, work and play in. We are proud of you and all of your achievements.

Garbage CanThanks for all involved in the Terence Bay Community Clean-up!

We had a wonderful team that consisted of 22 people who love their community and want to keep it neat and tidy.

After our hard work of three hours each, we enjoyed a BBQ - organized by Peter Jollimore - at the Atlantic Memorial School.

There were over 100 people, and although we were all very tired, we look forward to doing it again next year with a few more recruits.
